Make an agent, be paid for it
An agent is a Swift package on GitHub that Craft installs while it runs and calls by its word. Here is where the money goes when someone pays for yours, and every step from a repository to a listing, with no code.
The money
Where the money goes
Whatever someone pays for your work is split one way: you keep 90%, and Rao keeps 10%, out of which it pays the card fees.
One split, every time
A call to your agent, a copy bought for life, a month of your subscription: each is split as it’s paid, 90% to you and 10% to Rao.
Card fees come out of Rao’s share, not yours, so the figure you see is the figure you keep.
Per call
Coming soon1 Cr to 10,000 Cr a call
90%to you
5 Cr a call: 4.5 Cr to you, 0.5 Cr to Rao
Paid from the Credits people top up, $5.00 to $500.00 at a time; 1 Cr is one cent. Craft charges each call just before it runs, and gives it back if the agent fails.
Charged from the Craft release that asks before it runs a paid agent. You can set the price now.
For life
$0.99 to $999.99, once
90%to you
$4.99: $4.491 to you, $0.499 to Rao
Paid once, by card. Every call is free for that account after, and the agent stays in its library.
Each month
$5.00 to $100.00 a month
90%to you
$5.00 a month: $4.50 to you, $0.50 to Rao
A subscription to you, not to one agent: paid by card each month, and cancelled any time. Following you stays free.
- Free. A free agent needs nothing set up, and never needs Rao Plus.
- Both. Price an agent per call and for life, and people choose: “$4.99 once, or 5 Cr per call.”
- Free for followers, or subscribers. A paid agent can be free to the people who follow you, or who subscribe, for as long as they do.
What you’d keep
Try a price and a count: the split is the one the store records.
- People pay
- $50.00a month
- You keep, 90%
- $45.00a month
- Rao keeps, 10%
- $5.00a month
Before tax. Rao pays the card fees out of its 10%. Per-call prices are charged from the Craft release that asks before it runs a paid agent.
When it’s yours
Each share clears 7 days after it’s earned. A refund inside those days nets it out; after them, it comes off what has cleared.
Coming soonPayouts to a bank are coming soon. Until then, what you earn is recorded to your account, and Rao holds it for you. Once they open, you cash out what has cleared, from $25.00.
- A sale splits on its price before tax.
- Calls you make to your own agent are free, and earn nothing.
- When an agent fails, Craft gives the call back within 10 minutes: it costs the caller nothing, and earns nothing.
- Rao pays Stripe’s fees, for cards and for payouts, out of its 10%.
- The Terms of Use say all of this as an agreement.
Step by step
List an agent
Start with an agent that works: a Swift package that depends on Granite and implements its GraniteAgentPackage. Writing one is Granite’s side of things. Everything after it is here, and none of it is code.
- 01
Put it on GitHub
Make a new repository on GitHub for the package, and upload it: drag its folder onto the repository’s page, use GitHub Desktop, or push it with git.
Make it public. Every Mac that installs your agent fetches it from there, and the store lists only repositories you can push to.
- 02
Prepare the repository
The store reads three files if they’re there:
README.mdfor the description,Assets/listing.jsonfor the name, tagline, category and keywords, andAssets/icon.png, square and 512 px or more, for the icon.{ "name": "Marble", "tagline": "A photo filter on the GPU, sepia first.", "category": "graphics", "keywords": ["photo", "filter", "metal"] }The category is one of graphics, developer, productivity, data, media, writing, utilities. All three files are optional: whatever the repository leaves out, you type in the store.
- 03
Make a Rao account
Sign in to the store with Continue with GitHub, or with an email and a password. It’s one account for Ambient, Craft, Veil and the store, and the one Craft signs in with.
Then choose a handle. Your storefront, every agent you list, is craft.rao.nyc/store/your-handle; your profile, where people follow and subscribe, is craft.rao.nyc/store/@your-handle.
- 04
Link the repository
Open List an agent and connect GitHub. Pick the repository: the store reads it, says what it found (the package, and the word Craft calls it by) and fills in the listing.
If something’s missing, it says what; fix it in the repository, push, and pick it again. Leave Add the listing workflow checked: it adds one file to the repository, so every push updates the listing.
- 05
Choose how it’s paid for
Leave it free, or price it: per call in Credits, once for life, or both. A paid agent can be free for your followers, or for your subscribers, while they stay.
Pricing needs Rao Plus; free listings never do. You can list an agent free now and price it later.
Coming soonPer-call prices can be set now, and are charged from the Craft release that asks before it runs a paid agent.
- 06
Gather subscribers
From Your store, set a monthly price, $5.00 to $100.00, and open subscriptions. People follow you for free, and subscribe by card, on your profile; you keep 90% of every month.
Make your paid agents free for subscribers, and a subscription is worth taking. Those agents leave a subscriber’s library when the subscription ends.
- 07
Publish, then just push
Publish puts the listing in the store straight away: there’s no review queue. Craft installs your agent at the commit the listing names.
From then on, every push to GitHub updates the listing. Choose tagged releases only, and Craft moves to a new version only when you tag one.
